In front of 7,000 fans, the Coach Beard team, easily wins his eighth out of Big 12 conference game.

At the halftime, the score was a sentence for KSU, 42-19, plus 29 (82-53) the final.

Extremely clear, after forty minutes of physical domination, the difference between the two teams.

The great defense and control of the boards were the two most evident keys of the TTU superiority: 43-21 the total team rebounds.

Very exiting the next stop, called “Throwback Night”: TTU Red Raiders will play against Rice on saturday at Lubbock Municipal Coliseum, the first game since 1999.

After the first week of school I was really worried. I would like to tell you about what I understood during my classes, but there are not much to say, because a did not really understand anything (ahahah!).

The funniest class was Math, on Tuesday, I just understood the Professor’s name and that he is blind, yes, he is blind! He has a walk stick and an assistant that helps him during classes hours. I never heard that a blind professor could teach, is really strange but he also has all my respect. He spoke too fast, but all the terminology that I didn’t know in the English Math dictionary, killed me.

Fortunately on Tuesday I got only that class, because after 20 minutes I already have an incredible headache. I got 4 other classes during the week, and to go from one to the other one I downloaded an App on my phone, called “Find my Class” because this Campus is too big, and in 5 days I lost myself at least 7 times.

I got only ten minutes pause between each class and I have to ride my bike like if I go from Roseto Palasport to “La Vela” beach and I sweat every time like in practice to arrive in class on time.

The classes are exactly like I have always seen on movies, with almost 200 students for each one and the professor teach the lesson from a microphone like in a press conference.

Everything is so technological, I got a “Blackboard” account. It is the school website where I can see all my grades, do my homework and review (after 1pm) all the lessons that I have done in the morning. I took 3 days to understood how it works but now everything is so easy and awesome.

Keenan Evans score 25 points of his career-high 32 during the second half and overtime, Stevenson help the team with 11 points, but is the usual great contribution of the freshman from the bench that drives the RED RAIDERS to the seventh win of the season (7-1): Z. Smith, D. Moretti and J. Culver score 23 total points together.

In front of 10,000 hot fans, the key of the game for the coach Beard team was the good free throws percentage.

The Red Raiders had Evans, Moretti and Gray sink a pair of free throws down the stretch, and Zach Smith blocked a Caroline three-point attempt in the closing seconds to send the game into overtime.

22 minutes for Davide Moretti, scoring 3/3 from the line, and 2/3 threes.

Next game, in Lubbock Texas Tech will play with KENNESAW STATE, Wednesday 13 December at 8 pm local time.

Dear Davide, you chose to go to Texas and play in the NCAA, so I want to tell you about how it went to me, when I chose to leave Italy to get to Spain.

Choosing to leave Fortitudo Bologna for Barcelona was not easy at all. After the 2005 Italy title, Zoran Savic asked me to follow him to Barça. The decision was tough, because at that moment I was at the peak of my career, Captain and symbol of Fortitudo. And then the proverb says: never leave the old road for a new one, even if the desire to raise the bar was so big.

I knew perfectly what I was going through and the difficulties I would have had to insert myself in a totally different context, but as I have a hard head, I really wanted to try. Since I started from Ruvo di Puglia, I have always set goals. In small steps, I wanted to get to the top and the Barça saw it as the last step. Today I can say that it was worth it.

Before making the final decision I heard all the opinions of my family, to understand their thinking. Finally I spoke not my wife, to understand if it was appropriate to do this insanity, since we had bought a house in Bologna and she was 4 months pregnant and with 2 girls of 6 and 2 years. So I can say that it was the most difficult decision of my life.

Chapter language. English I chewed him little or nothing, but Spanish is very similar to Italian and so I have not had any particular difficulties. Then the fact that Marconato came with me helped me and I found Fucka at the Barça…so, in a month I understood everything and I managed to make myself understood.

As for the language, well it went also with regard to life. The pace was like the one I had in Puglia: the Catalans take it very calmly, a bit like us in Southern Italy.

I was also good for the food, since in Barcelona there was everything, even if we have only frequented Italian restaurants.

The hardest thing was to adapt myself to the coach, to get used to the method and the superhuman loads of work he had. But when I signed up I knew perfectly what I was going to meet. It’s just a matter of mentality: work always pays.

In fact, I took away so many satisfactions: I won practically everything that could be won, even if the greatest satisfaction has been able to stay in that club for 6 years. It is not easy to stay in those teams for a long time, then I was not so young (I stayed there from 30 to 36 years), but I had created a good relationship with the whole environment. When they told me that I was no longer part of their project, I cried.

If I think back, only the first 3 months have been difficult. I had even told Savic that I wanted to go back to Italy. Fortunately, he did not listen to me!

Ultimately, I would say that it was a wonderful choice for me and my whole family, as well as a very important stage of my life.

I wish everyone to have an experience like mine, which marks you positive for life.

So, dear Davide, I can only send you my sincerest “good luck”, wishing you the best.

Really good news for coach Beard is the season total points through six game from the banch, 250.

Season best yesterday with 62.

The Red Raiders of Texas Tech will make there debut at the Under Armour Reunion against N°20, Seton Hall, on Thursday novembre 30. The game is scheduled in New York and is televised by FOX Sport 1.

In front of almost eight thousand fans, the Texas Tech Red Raiders won the fifth consecutive game in this positive start of the season.

At the United Supermarkets Arena another one-way race was been seen for the Coach Beard boys, who had an excellent boost from freshman coming off the bench, Moretti and Culver, who produced respectively 8 points and 5 assists the first in 16 minutes and 21 points 3 rebounds and 2 recovers the second in 20 minutes in the court.

From +1 after four minutes (7-6) to 23-12 of the eighth with timeout for the guests of Wafford, the 4 consecutive assists of Davide Moretti plus a bomb and the baskets in roll of Jarrett Culver have created the first gap, which then became 50 to 22 at the halftime, producing the partial 43-16 that closed the race.

Ends 79 to 56, with fans standing to applaud the Red Raiders and sing the “Matador Song”!

Next game, Saturday November 25th at 2pm local time (9pm in Italy), against Savannah State University.

Last weekend the prestigious “Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Cahmpionship” tournament was held in Uncasville, Connecticut, with two convincing victories of coach Beard’s Red Raiders.

Against of two important teams such as Boston College, and especially Northwestern University, which last March had even participated of March Madness, Davide Moretti and his teammates won 75 to 64 the semifinal with Boston College and 85 to 49 the final.

Extremely balanced the first race, with the decisive break only arrived in the final minutes of the match; the victory, never questioned, with Northwestern Un., is solid and clear.

MVP of both matches a superlative Keenan Evans, author of 29 and 25 points.

The Moro has played two silent but very solid games, helping the team in a constant way, even if called on the court in a fairly reduced way compared to the first two releases: 9 minutes with 3 points against Boston College and 14 minutes with 5 points in the final against Northwestern University.

Lubbock’s very cool environment, after this positive start to the season, and atmosphere that will be very hot in the next race against Wofford at United Supermarkets Arena on November 23rd 2017.

The primarily purpose that I had when I left for this journey in Texas was to know personally, if all the reassurances that Davide has gave to us everyday when we called him, were the truth, or they were only excuses to don’t let us be worry for him.

Since some weeks ago, exactly since the first weeks of October, we heard a really relaxed voice, happy and completely full of energy, much more than the first period. Especially his mom, she felt during his call, that the toughest period, due to the language, food, academy and all the different habits inside and outside the court, were gone.

After have packed my bag with few personal things, Davide’s favorite pillow, fifteen rice’s boxes, fifteen tomato’s tubes, I left Bologna, trough Frankfurt/Dallas to arrive in Lubbock.

I was arrived at TTU on Tuesday November 1st, late night, after Davide has finished his first exhibition game with his team at the amazing United Supermarkets Arena.

The following night, Davide has invited all the team, with assistant managers and some coaches, to eat the real ITALIAN PASTA, I have cooked to 25 people our tomato pasta and carbonara pasta. INCREDIBLE SUCCESS!

Next morning, as soon as I walked the door, I had an unexpected event: somebody took my car, that I had rent at Dallas Airport. I have parked the night before, to take off the purchase for the Italian evening, in a reserved spot.

The Cottages where Davide lives is beautiful, it looks like a tourist resort, much way better organized, with some really tough rules, in fact, what happened last night cost me $313 of tow truck!

Saturday November 4th, I left for San Antonio, to see Ettore Messina, that he has invited me to visit the Spurs’ practice facility center, where I had the opportunity to see two practices: a real one, with the G-League team of the Austin Toros plus Tony Parker, that practiced with them to recover from his injury, and the second one, shooting around and walk trough during the morning of Clippers @ Spurs game.

At the facility, 1 Spurs Lane, I have enjoyed the time spent with one of the best European coaches, Ergin Ataman, he was doing a work trip that it would have taken him to Sacramento, Houston and than to San Francisco.

At the AT&T arena in San Antonio, I have watched the games: Spurs vs Suns and Spurs vs Clippers; the second one much way better than the first one, but both had an amazing atmosphere, for all that the US basketball represent here.

During the first game, I was arrived at the arena with Coach Messina, three hours before, so I had the opportunity to attend and watch all the pregame warmup, exactly on court side seats, in that moment I have seen on the Phoenix bench, a known “red” face, he was Tim Kempton, we played two years together in Verona, now he is a Sun’s TV commentator.

Parallel lives that time ago, parallel lives now, due to our sons, they have crossed during the summer, the ocean to play basket, Davide at Texas and Tim Junior at Bilbao.

Incredible coincidences!

Wednesday November 8th, I came back to Lubbock in the afternoon, on time to watch Davide’s practice, and after that, I was able to watch also the TTU women Volleyball game.

Finally Davide’s first NCAA game has come, Friday November 10th, South Alabama guys came in Lubbock, to face the Red Raider in the opening night.

An incredible atmosphere! Hard to explain, presentation and entertainment in NBA style, great organization, the American way to show the sport’s event. It is only the conclusion of how can we learn their incredible initiatives, to elevate our sport’s culture and habits.

After the national anthem, we begun! Tight game, the superiority of Coach Beard’s guys is clear, but they show it up only after 5 minutes of the second half, after that everything became easier! They won 75-50.

Is normal that in these games, anxiety and a little bit of fear are the principal characters, but I still have seen a lot of great things, that let glimpse a really big potential.

Saturday and Sunday on work, and here there already is the second one, November 14th a new guest is coming, it is Maine.

Unfortunately for me, there is no game, too low their level, 11-0 for TT on the first time out, 20-3 on the second one, I have watched a practice with crowd and score!

But already since the next two games, the level will raise up, on November 18th and 19th the Red Raiders are going to Connecticut to face Boston College first, and then another great ranked team, in a quadrangular tournament with Semifinal and Final in two days, the level is definitely going up!

My journey in Texas has arrived at the end, I left home to try to understand how my son was doing and what he needed, instead I have found I grow man.

On the long road from Lubbock to Dallas, where I will take the flight that will bring me back home, thousand of thoughts are on my mind, there is a little bit of sadness that fill my eyes of tears, from now Davide will need his father less than before, BUT THIS IS LIFE!
