BIG 12 – NOTHING TO DO FOR TEXAS TECH, KENTUCKY WIN AT THE OVERTIME

A beautiful and intense match where the Red Raiders, despite the various opponent’s attempts to escape, always manage to keep at close range and keep the race alive, without however being able to win the victory at overtime. A great pity for the coach Beard boys who, however, field an intense offensive, but above all defensive performance.

The first basket of the game is from Kentucky, which starts well and goes straight ahead, but Texas Tech, right from the start, does not stand by and responds blow by blow to the opponents ‘baskets, 10-10 after 5’. The first advantage of the Red Raiders comes after 7 ‘of play and when the match goes live: the two teams have a very intense pace and between breaks and counter-breaks they overtake each other for the entire second half of the first period , leaving neither of them the possibility of putting a substantial margin. The first period ends with Quickley’s midfield shot that allows Kentucky to end the first 20 minutes ahead of the score of 34-36.

The start of the second period is all of the “Kentucky” brand which, within 5 minutes, places a partial of 14-6 and wins the double digit of the race with the first advantage, reaching +10, 40-50. Texas Tech’s response comes immediately, with the boys of coach Beard who quickly reduce the opponent’s advantage, but are unable to get back in contact, remaining at -7 to 5 ‘from the end, 61-54. To shake up and allow the start of the real comeback is the triple by Davide Moretti who first starts the partial and then, at the end of the work, marks the two free throws that allow the Red Raiders to impact the match at 63 2.40 ”from the end. The final minutes of the race are very intense, with Kentucky managing to take the lead with a free 28 “from the end and Texas Tech who, always from the line with Moretti, equalized the score 18” from the end. At the final siren, the two teams are in perfect equality on 64-64 and overtime is necessary to decree the winner.

In overtime Kentucky starts off very strong, making a 5-0 partial in one minute and immediately going to +5, 69-64 at 3.51” from the end. The Red Raiders answer Edwards’ triple, Kentucky does the same with Sestina, but it is still Edwards and then Terrence Shannon jr from the line that allow Texas Tech to gnaw the opponent’s advantage and equalize the match at 1.13 “from the end, 72-72. Kentucky moves forward from the line, the Red Raiders respond with a McCullar jumper, but on the 74-74 ball in hand, they cannot capitalize on the attack and score. Decisive are the two free finals marked by Richards 10” from the end, which deliver the victory to Kentucky. The final score is 74-76 in favor of the opponents, with Texas Tech that after a great race is forced to capitulate.

For Davide Moretti, present for 44 minutes on the parquet, a good offensive and defensive test, especially in the second period where he made himself the protagonist of the comeback that allowed Texas Tech to play the overtime. Closes with 15 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 stolen balls.

After the home defeat with Baylor, the Red Raiders assert their field factor in a sold out and hot United Supermarkets Arena. A one-way race, with Texas Tech that continues from the first minute of the match and always maintains the advantage, overflowing in the second half, thanks also to a great ballistic performance by Davide Moretti.

Texas Tech starts off very strong and in the first 5 minutes of the game immediately scores an 11-2 partial. Iowa State in the second half of the first half is more combative, however, and manages to get back into the game, getting closer to the Red Raiders, up to -2, 13-15. Texas Tech, however, after the partial opponent, is good at responding immediately with a counter break and restoring distances. At the end of the first half the score is 27-21 for the home team.

The first flashes of the second half are from Iowa State which, with four consecutive points, goes back to -2, 27-25. The Red Raiders, however, are certainly not watching and, driven by their warm audience, they find a deadly partial, guided by 7 points by Moretti, which makes Texas Tech fly at +11, 41-29. Iowa State tries timidly to respond, but the Red Raiders significantly raise their defensive and offensive intensity, continuing to grind baskets and keeping their opponents at very low percentages. After the break in the first half of the period, the second part of the period serves Texas Tech only to consolidate the advantage and to express a high quality of play, in front of which Iowa State can do nothing. A good response for the team of coach Beard who, after two painful defeats, puts on an excellent choral performance, finally finding more offensive continuity and expressing the usual defensive solidity. A one-way race from the beginning of the game in favor of the Red Raiders, with Kansas State, however, at the beginning of the second half, the game returns and Texas Tech is very good at not losing your head and regaining the advantage first and then the victory.

The match starts entirely in the sign of the Red Raiders who in 4 ‘score a 10-0 partial, seasoned by a game of 4 points by Davide Moretti. The first opponent’s basket came after 5 ’of play from the line, with Kansas State trying to get back below -3, 10-7 despite the confusion given by the initial partial. The Red Raiders are good though and, with another big break, they regain the advantage in double figures, even touching the +15 at 4 ‘from the end, 32-17. Kansas State, however, tries to return below the first period final, with a break that allows him to score the -4, but Texas Tech manages to respond, especially thanks to Davide Moretti’s offensive and defensive contribution and goes to rest on +7. After 20 minutes of play, the score is 37-30 in favor of the Red Raiders.

Upon returning to the field, Kansas State is much more combative and 2 ‘goes back to -2, Texas Tech responds by returning to +8, but the opponents have a whole other step in this recovery, also thanks to the defensive drop of the Red Raiders, and in the second half they manage to impact the match at 48. It is certainly a difficult moment for Texas Tech who, however, does not lose his head and immediately after the tie he places a decisive partial of 13-2 and finds the double-digit advantage, 61 -50 to 7 ‘from the end. In the second part of time the Red Raiders are very good at containing their opponents and maintaining their advantage, by administering it. The game ended with Texas Tech’s external victory over Kansas State with the score 77-63.

For Davide Moretti another performance as leader and of substance, both offensive and defensive: 14 points, 3 steals and 2 assists in 37 minutes.

[et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”3.22″ _i=”0″ _address=”0″][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.25″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” _i=”0″ _address=”0.0″][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.25″ custom_padding=”|||” _i=”0″ _address=”0.0.0″ custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.27.4″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” _i=”0″ _address=”0.0.0.0″]In the first away conference match for Texas Tech, on the West Virginia field, comes the second consecutive defeat for the Red Raiders. A very complicated game for the coach Beard boys who continue to find no confidence with the basket and have great offensive difficulties (28.4% from the field). The # 17 West Virginia proved more continuous throughout the match and, despite the usual great defense of Texas Tech, it managed to find the way to the basket more easily, especially at the beginning of the second half where it marked the decisive break of the match.

Starting on the right foot is West Virginia with two baskets, but Davide Moretti from the start loads his shoulders and with two consecutive threes hits the match after 5 ‘, 6-6. Texas Tech finds the first advantage with Ramsey, but West Virginia continues to attack well and scores a break that allows him to go to +5 in the half-time, 11-16. Another threes by Moretti brings Texas Tech closer, responding blow by blow to the opponents’ baskets, but West Virginia manages to dig and maintain a significant advantage at the end of the first period, going to rest +6. After 20 minutes of play, the score is 37-31 in favor of West Virginia.

The second half opens well for the Red Raiders who thanks to another threes by Moretti approach their opponents, who, however, already at the beginning of the second half, thanks to an important partial, manage to find the first double-digit advantage, 50- 38 for WV 9 ‘from the end. Texas Tech tries to raise its head and, with a lot of heart, falls to -6 but, thanks to two offensive mistakes from close range, it cannot conclude its comeback. West Virginia, at the end of the game, takes off, reconsolidating its advantage and winning the game with the score of 66-54.

For Davide Moretti, surely the best of his team, a great performance especially from the offensive point of view, which allowed his team to try to fight for the victory. The # 25 closes with 16 points, 3 assists, 2 stolen balls, 1 rebound in 38 minutes.
